This article is meant to provide instruction on how to change your DNS records so that GoDaddy is handling the email for your domain. This is only going to work if you have pointed your DNS Nameservers to the Bigcommerce nameservers.
You’re going to be changing DNS records called your MX records, which are the ones that indicate who controls your email for your domain. The following are some instructions on how to get there in the control panel (you can also check out the video below).
Host | Type | Priority | Mail Server |
---|---|---|---|
yourdomain.com. | MX | 10 | mailstore1.secureserver.net. |
yourdomain.com. | MX | 0 | smtp.secureserver.net. |
The records below are recommended, but not required by GoDaddy. You may alter the existing TXT record.
Host | Type | Redirects To |
---|---|---|
email.yourdomain.com. | CNAME | email.secureserver.net. |
smtp.yourdomain.com. | CNAME | smtp.secureserver.net. |
yourdomain.com. | TXT | v=spf1 +a +mx include:_spf.bigcommerce.com include:spf.secureserver.net -all |
*Remember to change the “yourdomain.com.” to your actual domain when you create these records.
1.) Login to your store’s control panel.
2.) Click on “Tools “and then DNS Records.
3.) By default, there are two records that relate to your mail in your DNS settings. You need to delete the two records seen below by clicking on the red minus sign.
You need to delete these record in addition to adding the GoDaddy MX records. If you don’t delete it, the conflicting MX records will cause malfunctions in your email service.
4.) Below is a look at what your DNS records should look like after you add your MX and CNAME records.
5.) Make sure to save your changes.
